american airlines American 720B N7541A (62)(Grd) JFK (BD)(LR) 901353
Comments: American Airlines introduced the smaller Boeing 720B on July 31, 1960 from Cleveland to St. Louis and Los Angeles. Initially AA referred to the type still as a "707 Flagship" although it was a different type and derivative. The pictured 720-023B N7541A (msn 18027) at New York (JFK) arrived at AA on February 27, 1961 and was initially named "Flagship Louisiana". Later it would be painted in this short-lived (for AA) 1962 "Astrojet" lightning bolt livery which featured streamlined titles and a simplified Eagle placed in an oval in a circle logo. Two months after this picture was taken on October 5, 1970 it would be sold to MEA (Middle East Airlines) as OD-AFM. Copyright Photo: Bruce Drum.
